Edgar Allison Peers Publication Prize for Doctoral and Early Career Researchers 2025
The Editors of the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies and the Bulletin of Spanish Studies are delighted to invite submissions toa publication prize sponsored by both journals in collaboration with the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland in honour of Edgar Allison Peers.
Details of the Prize
Submissions should consist of a paper between 6,000 and 8,000 words of a quality that is suitable for publication on topic in any field within Iberian and Latin American Studies.
The submissions will be judge by a panel comprising the General Editor of the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Spanish Studies, the General Editor of the Bulletin of Contemporary Hispanic Studies and the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Spanish Visual Studies, and the President or Chair of the Trustees of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland (or another member of the Executive Board as appointed by the President).
Two prices will be awarded each year. The prize winners will be offered the opportunity to submit their winning papers to the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies or the Bulletin of Spanish Studies, or either of their sibling journals the Bulletin of Contemporary Hispanic Studies or the Bulletin of Spanish Visual Studies, as recommended by the panel. Peer review at all journals will still apply, but on the basis of one review (with the prize panel constituting the other reviewer).
The prize winners will also be invited to speak at the annual Edgar Allison Peers Symposium at the University of Liverpool, and/or on a panel at the AGHBI annual conference, with the cost covered by the prize.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be either currently undertaking a PhD in Iberian or Latin American Studies or be within 5 years of receiving the award of PhD.
- Applicants must be members of the AHGBI
Application Process
- Applicants should submit their paper to the AHGBI using this form by the closing date of 31 October 2025.
- The decision will be communicated to applicants by 31 January 2026.
